Over the weekend, fresh unrest linked to the delayed presidential poll flared up throughout the country between supporters of the two presidential candidates Alpha Condé and Cellou Dalein Diallo.

This, despite the television appearance of junta leader Sekouba Konaté, who appealed for calm.

There are fears that if the second round of voting is delayed again, the tense situation will get worse in the country.

“The international community do not want the violence which has happened elsewhere happening in Guinea, so they’d better stay firm on the side that if violence starts in Guinea they will intervene immediately", says Madani Dia who’s a political analyst and president of the NGO Agora.

"If the military in Guinea hear that they will stay calm, if not we’re going to face a really difficult situation”.
