Namibian security forces found the package while it was being loaded onto an Air Berlin plane, police say.

It was equipped with a detonator and a timer, police say, but it is not known whether it contained explosives.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière on Wednesday ordered security to be beefed up throughout the country, following a tip-off that an attack was being planned in Germany for the end of November.

“There is reason for concern, but no reason for hysteria,” he told a press conference.

Rhineland-Palatinate state Interior Minister Karl Peter Brach said that there were “concrete indications” of attacks being planned in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.
