The pair, a Kenyan and a Tanzanian, were killed on Thursday near the Amboseli National Park in the south of the country as they prepared to shoot a herd of elephants.

A senior warden at the park said it was a group of poachers they had been following for up to a month. They are believed to be responsible for the death of two elephants about a month ago.

Kenya lost more than 200 elephants last year due to the illegal trade in ivory driven by Asian and Middle Eastern demand for the tusks used in traditional medicines and for aphrodisiac potions.
