Ouattara declared winner of Côte d'Ivoire presidential election
Côte d'Ivoire's electoral commission has declared former prime minister Alassane Ouattara the winner in the country's presidential election with 54 per cent of the vote, displacing incumbent Laurent Gbagbo.

Ouattara has won 54 per cent of the vote while President Gbagbo, who has ruled over Côte d’Ivoire for a decade, secured only 46 per cent of the vote, senior commission official Auguste Miremont told AFP news wire.
However, the final results remain in the hands of Côte d’Ivoire’s Constitutional Council, which took over the electoral process when the electoral commission failed to make a Wednesday deadline to announce results.
Chaotic scenes had prevented results being announced on Tuesday amid accusations of cheating by both sides, though the United Nations mission said the election was sound overall.
The presidential elections was aimed at ending a decade of instability in Côte d'Ivoire but was marred by deadly violence.
At least four people were killed on Wednesday night in an attack on an office of Mr Ouattara's party.
