Thousands of people protested outside the White House at the weekend over a plan to build a  2,735 kilometre pipeline carrying tar-sand oil from Canada to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico. Prominent environmental campaigner Bill McKibben, is the author of a number of books on climate change including The End of Nature which is widely regarded as the first book on the subject for a general audience. He says this pipeline could spell environmental disaster for the region.
