Libyan ex-PM arrested fleeing to Tunisia
Authorities in Tunisia say they have arrested former Libyan prime minister Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi and sentenced him to six months in prison.
They say he was intercepted in the southern Tunisian town of Tamaghza, near the border
with Algeria. while trying to enter Tunisia using fake ID.
Al-Mahmoudi served as prime minister until Moamer Kadhafi, who is now in hiding after having been ousted last month.
The Tunisian authorities denied his arrest is connected to his status as Kadhafi insider.
They said it was because he tried to cross the border illegally.
It is not the first time a member of Kadhafi's inner circle has been caught trying to flee Libya via Tunisia.
On 7 September the Libyan commander Khouildi Hamidi was intercepted at Tunis Carthage airport trying to board a plane to Casablanca in Morocco.
