Law and Disorder in Northern Nigeria

Issued on:

The radical Islamist group, Boko Haram, has unleashed a wave of violence in northern Nigeria. Since the death of its leader in police custody, the group has stepped up its campaign, detonating bombs and assassinating officials. It aims to rid Nigeria of what it calls "Western education" and to impose Sharia law in a country that is evenly divided between Muslims and Christians. In a five-part series which begins today, our correspondant reports on how the legal system and security forces have responded to Boko Haram, and how ordinary people are dealing with the threat. In this programme she looks at the government's Military Response to Boko Haram.
