France has condemned Sudan's occupation of contested border town of Abyei on 21 Wednesday, December and has called on Khartoum immediately to stop its military operations there. Some 100,000 residents fled Abyei in May this year and non-governmental organizations have left the area due to instability. Eddie Thomas from the Rift Valley Institute  says any spotlight on the dire situation there is welcome.
