In Egypt, strikes and protests at the week-end saw activists urging Egyptians to engage in civil disobedience until the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces hands over power to civilians. But the highest Muslim authorities do not agree. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, said the teachings of Islam opposed "hampering production and work." Ernest Emad, an Egyptian film-maker, is among the social activists who have called for civil disobedience since 25 January last year, the date of the revolution.
