Algeria marks 50 years of independence from France

Algiers wants Paris to apologize for decades of colonial rule - and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people who fought for independence. But even that - the war's casualty figure - is a subject of disagreement between Algeria and its former colonial master. Why is this?
