Many people in Mali would like the army to intervene in the north where radical Islamists have enforced a strict application of sharia law. The Malian parliament has called on all the people of Mali to resist what it desribes as "the occupation" of northern Mali. Kassim Kone, a professor of anthropology at the State University of New York at Courtland, comments.
