Zimbabwe's secret police intimidate Mugabe opponents
Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe at the African Union in Addis Ababa, 15 July, 2012
Reuters/Tiksa NegeriThe European Union agreed earlier this week to lift sanctions against Zimbabwe, once it has held a credible referendum on a new constitution. The lifting of sanctions which target individuals, would not include President Robert Mugabe and his inner circle. The EU's move is to encourage further political reforms as fresh elections expected next year. But Nick Donovan of the Global Witness NGO warns that Mugabe's secret police is already engaged in a campaign of intimidation.
