Internally displaced people living in a school in the capital city of Damascus, 16 September, 2012
Reuters/Khaled al-HaririThe uprising in Syria has forced an estimated 100,000 refugees across borders to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq during August. It was the most deadly month of the conflict that has continued for over a year and a half. Many more Syrians are fleeing the violence inside the country - about 1.5 million of them, according to the Syrian Red Crescent. The battle for Syria's largest city Aleppo has entered its third month and over 200,000 have fled their homes there. In Aleppo and the surrounding countryside, families who have fled the violence now have nowhere else to go.
