Can you make grappa in South Africa?

Grappa is an Italian alcoholic drink made from the skins and pips of wine grapes. But now it is also becoming a South African drink. A 70-year-old German chef living near Cape Town has won a series of international distilling prizes for his grappa. But Helmut Wilderer's success is causing consternation in the European Union. Brussels argues that the drink cannot be called grappa unless it is made in Italy.
