Sudan's opposition protests on Independence Day

Reuters/Mohamed Nureldin AbdallahSudan's Independence Day, which is celebrated on New Year's Day, is an opportunity to celebrate the "father of indepedence", former President Ismail al-Azhari - the man who cut off ties with Britain and Egypt. But, for some opposition activists, this year's Independence Day was also an opportunity to relaunch anti-government protests. One of them, Ibrahim Alsafi, tells how he was arrested, beaten and later released.
