African nations prepare to deploy forces in Mali
French forces carried out a second day of air strikes against Islamist rebels in Mali on Saturday and sent troops to protect the capital Bamako in an operation involving several hundred soldiers

African nations are preparing to deploy a 3,300-strong force in Mali. Several Africa analysts say West African nations have little choice, since the extremists in Mali are threatening violence across the whole region. But John Peter Pham, Africa director of the Atlantic Council, told RFI the African-led intervention can at best be described as a "token" force.
