Last chance for peace between Central African government and Seleka rebels

Issued on:

A tense stand-off is continuing in the Central African Republic, between a rebel movement and the transitional government. The Seleka movement is threatening to resume hostilities if its demands are not met. On Sunday, the rebels issued an ultimatum giving 72 hours to the President to implement fully the Libreville peace accord signed in January. The agreement includes the release of political prisoners and the pull-out of South African troops from the country. Leonard Vincent spoke to Roland Marchal, Senior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Scientific Research, based at Sciences-Po in Paris. He says there is a last chance for peace if the regional mediators step in rapidly.
