Angola's oil only benefits elite, says Abel Chivukuvuku

Issued on:

Angola, which is an OPEC member, is well-known as Africa's second oil producer after Nigeria. Its oil is helping power its post-war economic boom. But opposition figure, Abel Chivukuvuku, says that the gains have mostly benefited the country's elite. Chivukuvuku, the leader of Casa-C.E. – which stands for "the Salvation of Angola-Electoral Coalition" – is visiting Europe this week to remind his partners that most Angolans still live in grinding poverty.
