South Africa today commemorates the 50th anniversary of what is known as the Rivonia trial. On the 11 July 1963 16 leaders of the African National Congress were arrested and charged with sabotage by the apartheid regime. Among them was Nelson Mandela who was sentenced to life imprisonment. Denis Goldberg, a white, Jewish leader of the Congress of Democrats, was among the other defendants and spent 22 years in prison. He talks about the trial.
