Police in Zambia have arrested 45 people on suspicion of being part of a separatist movement. President Michael Sata ordered the military last year to deal with the activists in western Zambia. They are accused of wanting to declare the independence of Barotseland, the homeland of the Lozi people. In colonial times, Barotseland was a British protectorat in the west of the country. It only chose to become a province of Zambia at independence in 1964. Neo Simutanyi - Executive director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue in Lusaka - explains that many people in Barotseland have second thoughts about Zambia's Central government.
