Grace Mugabe guns for Vice-President Mujuru at Zanu-PF congress

Zimbabwe's First Lady Grace Mugabe has got her Way … or rather she's just had a road named after her. The honour has got tongues wagging across the country as a congress of the ruling Zanu-PF sees the president’s wife gunning for the current vice-president.

More than 12,000 delegates are gathered in Harare for the event and the big question still is - will Grace Mugabe's wishes come true?

The former typist has been in the limelight over the past months as she led a determined campaign to get Vice-President Joice Mujuru ousted from her position.

Locals claim that never before has a road in Zimbabwe been named after a living person, apart from President Robert Mugabe himself.

Dr Grace Mugabe Way is a makeshift road at the venue in central Harare of the Zanu-PF congress, which will be officially opened by the president tomorrow.

The 90-year-old leader has promised surprises at this event.

At this point it looks very likely that Mujuru will lose her position.

That's if Mugabe's comments to war veterans on Tuesday were anything to go by: he's reported to have said Mujuru was too simplistic to succeed him as president.

Mujuru's allies have been steadily purged from the top ranks of Zanu-PF over the last few weeks and state media have hinted yesterday that more could be ousted in the coming days.

As tensions rise, former colonial power Britain has amended its travel advisory for Zimbabwe, telling citizens to stay away from large gatherings and to monitor local press reports.
