Kenya series part 2/5: Railway

Issued on:

For the first time in more than a hundred years, Kenya is constructing a standard gauge railway from the port city of Mombasa to Busia, a town on the border of Kenya and Uganda. The project will cost about three billion euros and will largely be funded through a loan from China's Exim Bank with the Kenya government providing part of the funding. RFI visited some of the local communities that have been evacuated to make way for the railway.
