Protests are taking place in several neighbourhoods across the capital Bujumbura, although the downtown area is unaffected.

Roadblocks have been set up by protesters blocking traffic in and out of the protest areas. Groups of police and military are present throughout.

Protesters say Nkurunziza's third term is against the constitution and the Arusha Agreement peace deal that ended Burundi’s civil war.

The country's constitutional court has ruled that if he wins in June's elections it would not be his third term and he can therefore stand in the polls.
