Africa's slow path to green energy

As the world scrambles to get ready for crunch climate talks at the end of the year, African leaders are gearing up to ensure Africa gets a fair deal.

From July 13th, many of them will converge in Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, for the third annual development finance conference, where the focus will be on mobilizing investment for the Green Climate Fund.

Three years after its creation, this mechanism designed to help poor countries withstand the ravages of climate change, remains desperately underfunded.

Yet the needs of the Continent are soaring, with the challenge of providung electricity to 590 million people ever present.

Africa must provide energy for its inhabitants without polluting to respect sustainable goals, but as RFI explains this remains a delicate balancing act.
