Tunisia's fledgling democracy, part 3/5

Issued on:

In the third part of our series on Tunisia’s fledgling democracy, we look at the role of women. Since Tunisia gained independence in 1957, women have enjoyed certain freedoms and rights denied to women in neighbouring countries. The 2014 constitution is one of the most progressive in the region with gender equality enshrined and 30 per cent of MPs are female. But many women still feel marginalised from the political process. Clare Sharkey went to visit a project in the north of the country to see how that is changing.
