Entrepreneurship in Senegal, part 5

Issued on:

Introduction Coconuts have the power to change lives. As a raw material with a lot of potential, coconuts and coconut milk are being turned into juices, soaps and oils by a young team of entrepreneurs working hand in hand with farmers in southern Senegal’s Casamance region. Like a lot of farmers in isolated rural areas, crops are grown for personal consumption or sold in the immediate vicinity but rarely would the products leave the area due to bad roads, and poor distribution lines between rural and urban areas. Emmanuelle Landais went to find out more from Bégué Coco, a project in Senegal bridging the gap between growers and buyers, expanding the reach of crops and creating greater income for farmers.
