French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni were in New York on Monday as part of an official visit to the United States. He has been invited to a private dinner at the White House on Tuesday with US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle. The trip will help both leaders, especially Sarkozy, whose approval ratings have slipped to 30 per cent after his UMP party suffered heavy losses in regional elections.
