The plane travelling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris came down in the South Atlantic, and until now, it has been impossible to establish what caused the disaster.

Within the next ten days the box will be transported by Naval ship to the Investigation and Analysis Office at Le Bourget near Paris.

The black box should have recorded the exact flight path of the plane.

Air accident investigators still hope to find the second black box, containing recordings of conversations between crew members in the cockpit.
