Colombia's Medellin holds Paris-style fête de la musique

The Fête de la Musique is a music festival to celebrate the beginning of the summer on 21 June. It was launched in France in the 80s but it is now celebrated internationally. In the Colombian city of Medellin it has been that the Alliance française, which promotes French culture abroad has been organising the event for the last 10 years. About 170 concerts happened this weekend there. But Medellin has a turbulent history linked to its notorious drugs cartels. The music festival is not only an opportunity for Colombians to listen to local musicians but also a way to bring together people from every background and promote music as part of a healing process.
