Montreal council votes on controversial Maple Spring protest law

Issued on:

In 2012, student demonstrations protesting against a rise in tuition fees paralysed Montreal. The movement was dubbed "the Maple Spring." The city council reacted by passing a controversial by-law that makes protests illegal in some cases. On Monday, following several mass arrests, the city council will vote on whether this law should stay on the books or be abandoned.
