Ex-prostitutes drop civil cases against Strauss-Kahn ahead of prosecution’s summing-up

Two ex-prostitutes yesterday dropped a civil suit against Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is standing trial for pimping in France, their lawyer said. The prosecution was set to sum up in the much-publicised trail on Tuesday.

The former prostitutes had delivered testimony during the trial on how they felt powerless to say no to Strauss-Kahn sodomising them during sex parties.

But their lawyer said they felt unable to prove that the former head of the International Monetary Fund knew they were prostitutes and were dropping their civil case against him.

It was running in parallel to the criminal trial in which Strauss-Kahn and 13 others are charged with pimping, a charge that could face up to 10 years in prison.

Strauss-Kahn has denied knowing that any of the women involved in various sex parties he took part in received money for participating.
