This week India and the makers of the BlackBerry smart phone meet to try to overcome a ban on text messages; demonstrations take place in Kashmir after an 11-year-old boy is killed by security forces; airstrikes on militant hideouts in north-west Pakistan leave civilians dead, and the United Nations food programme urgently calls for more food supplies to the flood-stricken country.
