Taliban attack Afghan military recruits in Kunduz and Kabul

Suicide attackers have hit an Afghan army recruitment centre in northern Afghanistan. Two or three have been shot dead but one or two are believed to still be inside the building which is on fire. Shots can be heard and people are reported to be trapped inside.

A simultaneous attack on a bus carrying army recruits in Kabul is over. The two attackers, who had opened fire on the bus, were killed before they could detonate their explosives.

About eight people are reported dead from the Kunduz attack, while in Kabul five were killed and nine injured. Seven of the dead were military personnel, officials say.

Kunduz is one of the most volatile provinces in the relatively peaceful north of the country.

A Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Muhahid, claimed responsibility for both attacks. He said more than a dozen soldiers were killed in the attack in Kunduz.

One civilian was killed Sunday morning and four children were wounded when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Panjwayi district, in the southern Kandahar province.
