Pakistan will work with the US on future operations against prominent targets on its territory, officials announced Monday as US Senator John Kerry met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani following Osama bin Laden’s killing by US Navy Seals.

The two countries will “work together in any future actions against high-value targets in Pakistan”, said the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid protests over the US action and reprisal attacks in Pakistan.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “will soon announce plans to visit Pakistan to develop new trust”, Kerry announced after meeting Gilani.

The visit by a prominent Democrat senator and former presidential candidate aimed to repair relations between the two countries after Pakistani protests that it had not received prior warning of the attack on bin Laden’s compound and widespread accusations that its secret services protected the al-Qaeda chief.

The US and Pakistan were “strategic partners with a common enemy in terrorism and extremism”, Kerry said.

“It was the need of the hour that Pakistan and US should rebuild the trust and confidence between their governments and institutions,” Gilani’s office said.
