North Korea urged to improve human rights record

Reuters/Jo Yong-HakMarzuki Darusman, a UN envoy, urged North Korea on Friday to end torture and other, degrading" treatment of detainees. Meanwhile, United Nations agencies say some six million North Korean people urgently need food. The South provided some 400,000 tons of rice a year until relations worsened when a conservative administration took office in Seoul in 2008.
