Indian sex workers denied visas for Washington HIV-Aids summit

Issued on:

While the International Aids Society meets in Washington DC, Indian sex workers and drug-users are protesting that their visa applications were turned down by the US authorities because of their professions or because they are known to take drugs. Who is the conference for, they ask. Medical specialist  Ishawar Gilada,  who has worked in this field since HIV/Aids was identified nearly 30 years ago, says that there are an officially estimated 2.7 million people in India infected.
