Acid attack survivors' café opens for business in Agra, India

Issued on:

India's first café managed and run by survivors of acid attacks has opened to brisk business and supportive crowds in Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal. Christened the 'Sheroes Hangout', the outlet is being supported by the organisation 'Stop Acid Attack'... and became functional after a successful two-month trial-run during which the girls got hands-on experience at operations and dealing with customers. The café was inspired by a beauty parlour in the Pakistani city of Lahore run by acid-attack survivors that started last year. Ultimately, it hopes to become a centre for women's empowerment, with programmes on gender issues and legal awareness.
