Indonesia has been under the spotlight in recent months because of raging forest fires on major islands Sumatra, Borneo and Papua... The fires have released toxic smoke that has spread across neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia... Indonesian authorities say 19 people have died either fighting the fires or due to the smoke, and that half a million Indonesians are suffering from respiratory illness. Thousands of fires forced schools to close and scores of flights and international events to be cancelled. RFI’s Clea Broadhurst has this report.
