Quai Branly lifts the lid on human zoos

Long before TV, cinema and playstations gave us all home entertainment, people flocked in their millions to colonial fairs, cabarets and freak shows to marvel over exotic peoples such as pygmies, zulus, eskimos and aborigines. The exhibition “Human zoos – inventing the savage” at Paris’s Quai Branly museum traces the development of these human zoos and their role in building racism. All the better to dismantle it!
