In an interview with the French edition of the magazine GQ, Sophie Marceau called the French head of state a “jerk”.

“He has mistresses and when it becomes known, he refuses to talks about it. A man who behaves like that with women, is a jerk”, opined the actress.

Deneuve reacts with disapproval to the comments, in her own interview to appear in this Sunday’s La Nouvelle République Dimanche.

“I find it very vulgar. Extremely vulgar. I am astonished at the casualness with which people, including journalists, speak about the President of France”, the cinema legend says in an excerpt from the interview which appears on the newspaper’s website (Lanouvellerepublique.fr).

“I understand that people can criticise him for certain things but could we perhaps nevertheless keep things on a more elevated level? A ‘jerk’ and a ‘coward’! It sounds like someone’s talking about her best friend’s husband, who has just left her. I think it’s incredible!”

“I never voted for him”, says Sophie Marceau.

“We don’t want to know how she voted, that’s why we have individual polling booths”, retorts Deneuve.

Hollande and his long-time partner Valerie Trierweiler split up two months ago, after photographs were published in January in the French magazine Closer, alongside allegations that the French president was having an affair with French actress Julie Gayet.
