Hello everyone!

Welcome to The Sound Kitchen. You can catch the programme on-the-air every Saturday, at 4:52, 6:22, and 7:52 universal time. You’ll hear the winner’s names announced and the week’s quiz question, along with all the other ingredients you have grown accustomed to: your letters and essays, “On This Day”, quirky facts and news, interviews, and great music … so be sure and tune in every Saturday.

This week’s quiz: On 29 November, I asked you to listen to our very good world music show, World Music Matters, put together every week by Alison Hird. That week, Alison talked to Carlos Robles Arenas from the Orange Blossom music collective, about their new album “Under the Shade of Violets”. On the album is a young classical Egyptian singer, Hend Ahmed, who sings a song called “Ya sidi”. Robles Arenas explains to Alison what the song is about, and you were to write in and tell me what he said.

The answer is: Robles Arenas told Alison that the song is about a young woman who has been disappointed in love, and she thinks she will never love again. He went on to say that the song is a very Egyptian take – or way of thinking – about love, in which there is some kind of relationship between Allah, God, and human love.

The winners this week are: Mogire Machuki, president of the RFI Fan Club in Kisii, Kenya; Mrs E Vijayalakshmi, from Chennai, India; Sheuly Khatun, from Sirajganj, Bangladesh; Shahzad Shabbir, from the Pak France International Club in Sahiwal, Pakistan, and Ishmael Kawanaza, from Windhoek, Namibia - who texted his answer into the Sound Kitchen mobile phone … see below to see how you can do that, too.

Congratulations, winners !
