Fabulous news! We have a shortwave frequency again! It’s 13725 kHz on the 22m band, and you can hear us between 6.00 and 7.00 UT every day. We’ve had reception reports from Algeria, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Cuba, India, Indonesia, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US, and although the frequency is “aimed” (or however that works) towards the African continent, give it a try. You never know … and be sure and send us your reception reports. Maybe we can get more time, which would be wonderful.
This week’s quiz: In July, Greece was the hot topic in European news, as we all watched and wondered if they would stay with us in the Eurozone. During the difficult negotiations, the finance minister resigned – on 6 July - and a new finance minister was named. That was my question to you: on 11 July, I asked you to send in the names of the first finance minister – the man who held the office as soon as the Syriza party was voted in – and his replacement. In addition, you were to give the name of the RFI English journalist who was on the ground in Greece to report on it all for you.
The answer is: Former finance minister : Yanis Varoufakis.
His replacement : Euclid Tsakalotos.
