Cape Verde may be one of Africa's poorer states; two thirds of its population live abroad. But it's brought us great music and great musicians such as the late Cesaria Evora.Lura is following in Evora's footsteps, building on her famed morna, but infusing it with an energy all of her own.
Lura grew up in Portugal and has had a successful musical career there.
But two years ago she chose to return to the island of Santiago, the most African of Cape Verde's ten volcanic islands.
Her latest album, HeranƧa, uses the upbeat once-banned funana rhythm to pay exquisite tribute to her African heritage.
Lura is currently touring Europe. Keep an eye on her facebook for details about a Paris concert in early January 2016.
