Prosecutors said Monday that the jewels were worth more than 100 million euros, making the heist one the world’s biggest jewellery thefts.
Authorities initially estimated the jewellery at around 40 million euros.
The hold-up took place in broad daylight, police said, with the man grabbing a case of jewels from the Cannes Carlton Hotel.
A jewellery exhibition was taking place in the hotel at the time.
