French executives brace for impact of Greek crisis on European, French economies

Six out of ten executives in France believe that unemployment will rise in the coming months, according to a survey released Monday which also shows a concern for the consequences of the Greek crisis.

The study conducted by ViaVoice for business school HEC, newspaper Le Figaro and radio station France Inter shows that executives are not optimistic, with 60 per cent responding that they believe that unemployment will rise. Only 15 per cent said they expect a decline.

More than a third predicted a lower standard of living in France in the coming months, with only 24 per cent saying they expected it to improve.

The survey, conducted between 18 June and 23 June, shows that 77 per cent of executives believe that there will be few or no opportunities to advance their careers in the coming months, and 59 per cent report that their employees are not motivated "in general".

Nearly three-quarters of French executives said they believed that a Greek default on its debt could have important consequences for the European economy, while 60 per cent said it would have an impact on France’s economy.
