Senegalese Karim Wade's arrest divides the nation

Issued on:

In Senegal, the arrest of Karim Wade, son of the former president, Abdoulaye Wade, continues to divide the nation. Karim is accused of stealing over 1 billion euros from state coffers during his father's two terms in office between 2000 and 2012. For some Karim's arrest is a victory against nepotism, for others it represents a political witch hunt on the part of the current government of President Macky Sall.
