Strauss-Kahn waved briefly and smiled after kissing an unidentified woman goodbye, before climbing into the vehicle.

It's thought he was heading for a plane to New York from where he is expected to leave the United States.

Friends of Strauss-Kahn say he has a ticket for France departing from New York on Saturday evening.

He told reporters that he was keen to return home to his country when he emerged from court on 23 August, after a Judge's decision to dismiss the case against him.

Strauss-Kahn resigned as head of the International Monetary Fund in May, after he was arrested and charged with the sexual assault an attempted rape of a New York hotel maid.
