Former Bolivian President Evo Morales flees to Mexico

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales was due to arrive on Tuesday in Mexico, whose government has offered him political asylum.

Morales resigned on Sunday after weeks of violent protests which broke out when he claimed victory in the 21 October presidential election. The president’s exit has created chaos and uncertainty in Bolivia as well as stoking fears about a power vacuum. The senator set to succeed Morales as interim president, Jeanine Anez, pledged to call fresh elections to end the political crisis. RFI's Ollia Horton spoke to our correspondent James Blears in Mexico City.
