Sri Lanka bans over 100 porn websites

Sri Lanka is cracking down on pornographic material accessible on the web, blocking over 100 adult websites featuring Sri Lankan men and women.

The move follows complaints heard at Colombo’s Juvenile Court that children had free access to websites which featured local actors and actresses involved in adult scenes.

The government information department says the Sri Lankan Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) has been asked to prevent internet users access to 107 porn websites. Pornographic films featuring foreigners will remain accessible.

The decision to ban local porn websites is Sri Lanka’s biggest censorship move yet. In July last year, the TRC blocked access to 12 sites.
