Malaysia budget airline opens Paris route in February

Malaysia budget airline AirAsia X is opening a new route in February, and will offer four flights per week to Paris via Kuala Lumpur, the airline said Thursday. Direct flights to Orly airport will start on Valentine's Day, chosen so Malaysians can come and enjoy the city of love.

"AirAsia X's Paris-Kuala Lumpur route is the realisation of one of its long-held ambition to open up yet another affordable access between Malaysia and Europe," said affiliate AirAsia founder and CEO Tony Fernandes.

Paris will be the airline's second European route.

"We have always been enthusiastic in venturing into a new European country since we launched London" in March 2009, said AirAsia X's CEO Azran Osman-Rani in a statement. "The establishment of a new route is a significant achievement for us."

Airbus A340s with a 327-passenger capacity will be used, AirAsia X announced, adding that it has already placed an order for 17 Airbus A330s and 10 A340s.

One-way fares are estimated to be as low as 499 ringgit, or 118 euros.

AirAsia X announced last September that it would enter the Japanese market in December with Kuala Lumpur - Tokyo flights.

The airline aready flies to 13 destinations worldwide, including London, Taipei, Tehran, Seoul, Tokyo, China (Tianjin, Hangzhou, Chengdou), Australia (Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth), and India (Mumbai, Delhi).
